Jesus came to church today
Was welcomed at the door
Hymn book, news sheet, welcome pack
A smile and not much more
Jesus came to church today
We sat Him near the front
I’m not sure we’ll like this chap
He was honest and too blunt
Jesus came to church today
Now I don’t want to make a fuss
But I’m not sure He'll fit in
He’s not really like us
Jesus came to church today
We sat Him at the side
He’s starting to make some changes
And that really hurts our pride
Jesus came to church today
Asking to be fed
We gave Him the local refuge number
Saying try there instead
Jesus came to church today
Said: I’m risen, it is true
Someone answered never mind that
Can you move you’re in my pew
Jesus came to church today
Needing a helping hand
We had to say ‘we’re sorry but
That’s not in our five year plan’
Jesus came to church today
Saddened by the cry
Of worship songs, praise and prayer
About not Him but ‘I’
Jesus came to church today
We’re sick of His demands
Who does He think that we are?
His eyes, His feet, His hands?
Jesus came to church today
We sat Him at the back
The people are all moaning
And we’ve been getting flak
Did Jesus come to church today?
I really cannot say
With all the programmes and things to do
He just got in the way
Did Jesus come to church today?
Well does it really matter
Our friends are here, we sung nice songs
And had a lovely natter
Jesus left our church today
A bride without a groom
With all our plans and strategies
There simply isn’t room
Jesus left our church today
Spirit sadly crushed
When out of His very own house
He has been violently pushed
Jesus left our church today
His church is NOT a game
Yet sadly, O so sadly friends
The church went on the same
